We are looking for students to assist in the curation, production, distribution, and marketing of the Future of Marketing(FOM) digital magazine. FOM magazine is a major publication of the Future of Marketing Institute, a think-tank that is part of the Schulich School of Business at York University. FOM magazine is the largest read digital publication on the topic with over 50,000 readers.

What is the Main Goal of the Project

We are looking for students who can work as ‘Managing Editors’ of FOM magazine. Managing Editors have full responsibility for the curation, product, distribution and marketing of FOM magazine. The magazine is updated daily, so Editors have daily tasks with strict deadlines.

Deliverables

What Tasks Will Students Need to Do to Achieve the Project Goals

1. Read articles on future of marketing topics in relevant business publications including Forbes, Businessweek, Adweek, Medium, TheDrum, Entrepreneur and dozens of others.

2. Write and analyze surveys to determine satisfaction with the magazine.

3. Complete spreadsheets which contain details on articles the magazine publishes (ie. article name, date published, author contact information, topic category, etc.)

4. Write advertising materials to promote the magazine on various social media. This includes creating LinkedIn posts and articles and daily Tweets.

5. Using social media platforms such as Google Analytics and Hootsuite to manage promotional content and analyze effectiveness metrics.

6. Write original content on future of marketing topics for publication in the magazine.

Mentorship

How the Future of Marketing Institute will Support Students

1. The Institute will provide an all-day ‘Onboarding’ Session to teach students key aspects of magazine production.

2. The onboarding session will be followed by a two-week ‘Apprenticeship’ period where the student will work closely under the direction of the Manager of the Institute.

3. Students will attend weekly meetings with the FMI Manager and FMI Executive Director to review their work and to teach them more details on how to curate and publish the optimal content.
