Project Purpose

QuestLabs is a holistic coaching and capacity-building companion that blends futures research, emotional well-being, and academic to-dos. The mobile platform supports learners in tracking emotional, relational, and project-based growth through simple prompts, reflective practices, and collective accountability.

Core Sections to Design

1) Regular Integration & Support Requests

  • Drip-fed prompts (simple questions, polls, or ABCDEFG Zettel journaling MadLibs).
  • Space for users to request support or reflect on their week in micro-bursts.
  • Low-friction inputs designed for daily or weekly use.

2) Dashboard with Project Progress & Mapping States of Being

  • Visualization of well-being and project progress over time using frameworks like:
  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Snapshots : See example here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/15sMPpFFc-h_ze3PavtqYHqSAPqrr0_9k?usp=drive_link
  • Polak’s Affect–Agency grid (hopeful vs. fearful, empowered vs. powerless).
  • Wheel of Life style mapping (balance across different domains).

Clear, visually engaging feedback loops so users see progress, patterns, and where attention is needed. Essentially, a place where students are asked... How are you? ...really though? And they can begin to see trends in different areas of life over time from a qualitative and quantitative perspective.

3) Cohort Element (“I win when you win”)

  • Think more Collaborative Battleship or BINGO, less hierarchy (leaderboard) or competition (zero-sum)
  • Features that highlight interdependence, collaboration, and shared progress.
  • Cohort dashboards, badges, or playful metaphors where participants thrive by supporting one another.
  • A “mutual thriving” ethos: collective wins matter as much as individual ones.

Here's an example of a wireframe from 2020 as an example.

Things have shifted since then. I'm curious how we develop metrics and support students in doing well, yes... but more importantly, BEING well.

Deliverables

Student Learning Outcomes

By working on these three sections, learners will:

  • Apply cutting-edge UI/UX principles to high-fidelity mobile prototypes.
  • Practice human-centered design by balancing individual and collective user needs.
  • Explore how data visualization can make emotional and relational progress tangible.
  • Gain experience in prototyping integrations with lightweight data tools (e.g., Google Forms/Sheets, surveys).
  • Build portfolio-ready work while contributing to an experimental, futures-oriented education platform.

Tasks & Activities

  • Develop wireframes and clickable prototypes for each of the three sections.
  • Design engaging landing and navigation flows that link these sections together.
  • Prototype data inputs (surveys, polls) and outputs (dashboards, visual maps).
  • Test prototypes with Sandbox participants and refine through iteration.
  • Document design choices in a short report, including user empathy and feedback considerations.
  • Beta test academic life coaching activities that accompany the app

Deliverables

  • A Figma wireframe prototype with the three core sections:
  1. Integration/Support Prompts
  2. Dashboard with Project Progress & States of Being
  3. Cohort Element
  • A style guide for consistency and scalability.
  • A short walkthrough video showing the user journey through these sections.
  • A brief design report reflecting on design process, user testing, and feedback.

Impact for Students

Students gain practical experience translating abstract futures literacy concepts into tangible digital design. They leave with:

  • Confidence in designing for both individual reflection and collective flourishing.
  • Skills in mapping affect, agency, and balance through visual communication.
  • An understanding of how playful, light-touch prompts can sustain engagement.
  • A concrete contribution to QuestLabs’ experimental platform for holistic education and well-being.

Welcome to QuestLabs, a healing-centered futures research ecosystem rooted in play, storytelling, collective intelligence, and emergent systems design. We are seeking interdisciplinary students who want to build the future by prototyping it. These projects are tied to a real-world research, community workshops, and a future PhD proposal. Students will co-create alongside Makēda, a global educator, foresight strategist, and creative visionary.

Mosaics in the Making is a transformative organization founded by Makēda Gershenson that focuses on empowering learners through coaching, education, and the application of social-emotional learning (SEL), mindfulness, and restorative practices. The organization’s mission is to provide individuals with the skills, tools, and community necessary to thrive, while fostering personal and communal growth. Through a variety of initiatives like Quest Labs and Futures Literacy Labs, Mosaics in the Making helps learners and leaders unlock their potential by addressing gaps in education and promoting emotional intelligence and equity.

The work is grounded in healing-centered principles, creating supportive environments where people can engage in self-directed learning, emotional resilience, and future-focused thinking.
